Special Session on
Artificial Intelligence Applications in Environmental Engineering
at
The 4th Indian International Conference on Artificial Intelligence
(IICAI-09)

December 16-18, 2009, Tumkur (near Bangalore), India

A Special Session on Artificial Intelligence Applications in Environmental Engineering will be held during the 4th Indian International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IICAI-09).

The problem of environmental management is becoming a matter of great concern all over the world. Mathematical models such as conventional and semi-empirical models have been widely used in all aspects of environmental planning, where prediction is a major component. With the rapid advancement in computational technology, mathematical models are also being widely used in decision making. Over the last one decade artificial intelligence (AI) techniques like artificial neural networks (ANNs) and Fuzzy logic have emerged as powerful alternative tools to conventional methods in management of complex environmental systems.

The main focus of this special secession is to understand and discuss the recent developments in AI applications pertaining to environmental engineering. The deliberations and discussions of this section will provide opportunities for cross-fertilization of ideas and achieving the larger goal of development of efficient environmental management/decision making system.

The topics covered in this session include, applications of AI techniques such as ANN, genetic algorithm, Fuzzy logic, neuro-fuzzy and other related pattern reorganization methods to following environmental issues:

  • Environmental decision making system
    Environmental data classification
  • Environmental risk assessment
  • Identification of point and non point source pollution
  • Indoor air quality management
  • Industrial pollution control and management
  • Noise pollution prediction/forecasting
  • River/lake/estuary water quality management
  • Solid waste management
  • Water supply engineering
  • Water and wastewater treatment plant management
  • Urban air quality management

Papers on AI applications to above said topics and other environmental related issues are invited for this special session.

Paper Submission and Publication:
Authors are encouraged to submit the papers for this session as an email attachment to the Session Chairs (please send to both the Chairs) given below. The papers should be in MSWORD, PDF, or PS format and should be formatted according to the Springer Lecture Notes instructions. The length of a paper should not exceed 20 pages. Shorter papers or papers on the work currently in progress are also welcome. The first page of the paper should contain the title, name(s) of the authors, affiliations, the postal and email addresses, and at least 3 keywords appropriate to the content of the paper. Further information regarding the paper submission can be obtained from the conference website too.

Each paper will be peer reviewed by at least two experts in the topical area. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under the title of the session.

You may contact the conference chairs at   iicai.conference[at]gmail.com for any additional information.
